Strengths are a combination of talents, skills, and knowledge that we use to perform effectively and efficiently. Strengths are not just what we’re good at, but also what energizes and motivates us, contributing to our overall well-being and success.
Strength = Talent + Knowledge + Skills
Talent is our natural though patterns, feelings or behaviors refers to natural patterns of thought, feeling, or behavior. These are innate and we're born with them, talents such as creativity, empathy, or analytical thinking. We can harness our talents when we’re aware of them and take time to develop them.
Skills are the abilities acquire through learning, practice, and application. We can learn, develop, refine, and enhance our skills through effort. The idea is that when we practice and refine our skills it lends us toward proficiency in doing our tasks. Skill we can develop are wide and varied: things like the arts, design, critical thinking, data analysis, project management, negotiation, resilience, communication, leadership, technical skills to name a few.
Knowledge is defined as the information, awareness, and understanding acquired through education and experience. It is the theoretical and practical comprehension of a subject that enhances one’s ability to utilize their talents and skills effectively.
The Importance of Recognizing Strengths and Talents
- Self-Awareness and Confidence: Recognizing your strengths and talents boosts self-awareness - providing clarity on what you do best. When we have clarity and self-awareness it can foster self-confidence. When we’re confident we’re more likely to take on challenges while we pursue our goal with sell assurance.
