When we’re having a bad day or week, feeling imposter syndrome, had a poor performance review, or interpreted feedback as negative we can review our strengths. Reviewing our strengths and talents can help us remember we are competent, we have strengths and talents, we’ve done good work.
In this blog, we will explore the importance of recognizing your unique strengths and how to harness them to achieve personal and professional growth.
The Power of Self-Awareness
Recognizing your unique strengths begins with self-awareness. Self-awareness is the ability to reflect on your unique strengths, personality, actions, and feelings. Knowing what drives, motivates, you, what your good at, and what makes you feel alive. When we lean into self-awareness, we can identify our unique strengths and use them to our advantage.
How to Cultivate Self-Awareness:
1 Reflect on Your Experiences: Take time to think about past experiences where you felt most accomplished and satisfied. Consider any achievements, awards or customer/client appreciation or kudos. What strengths and talents did you use in those moments?
2 Seek Feedback: Ask friends, family, and colleagues for feedback on what they perceive as your strengths and talents,
3 Personality Assessments: Consider taking personality tests or strength-finding assessments like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or StrengthsFinder to gain insights into your inherent traits. There are free versions online and paid. I’m a MBTI facilitator if you’d like to take the official version and review your results – please contact me.
Embracing Your Unique Strengths
Once you’ve identified your unique strengths, next is to embrace them fully. We want to incorporate them and fully realize these in our lives. We do this by accepting and valuing your strengths, even if they differ from societal norms or expectations. Remember we are each unique and have unique talents and strengths. Embrace them!
Make a list of what your strengths are and how you can embrace and share these with the world.
How might you further embrace your strengths?
