Getting inspired to take action is not always as straightforward as it sounds. It requires more than just passion or a burst of energy; it requires a mindset shift, consistency, and a healthy dose of self-compassion. It may sound hard - it’s a system to support you reach your goals.
The 2025 Goals Planner is a system that I designed to help keep you motivated and inspired to take action. I’ve been using it daily and the weekly review and To Done pages are working to keep me motivated. I am taking action each day and celebrating as I move things to the To Done page. If you have one - thank you. If you want one - the Spirals are 33% and paperbacks are 15% Off. Click here to get yours.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you ignite that fire of inspiration and keep it burning to achieve your goals.
1. Clarify Your "Why"
Before diving into any action, it’s essential to ask yourself why this goal is important you? Your “why” is your foundation—it’s the emotional reason behind your goal, the deeper motivation that will fuel your persistence.
For instance, if your goal is to get fit, your "why" could be about feeling confident in your own skin, being able to do the things you want without getting tired, or reducing the risk of health issues. When you clearly understand why you want to achieve something, it transforms the goal from a mere task into a meaningful pursuit.
2. Break Down the BIG Goal and Dream
See Dreams & Intentions into Goals
Goals can feel overwhelming when you look at them from a distance. A large goal like getting healthy, writing a book, or launching a new business can seem insurmountable at first glance. But here’s the trick: break it down into smaller, manageable steps.
Start by identifying the milestones you need to hit along the way. Want to get healthy? Define what good health means to you, how might your food and nutrition change? Want to write a book? Break it down into chapters, then sections, or even paragraphs - then tackle it one word at a time. By focusing on one small step at a time, you’ll feel less overwhelmed and more in control of your progress.
3. Visualize Success
Visualization is a powerful tool to help maintain motivation. When you imagine yourself reaching your goal—whether it’s living your new healthy lifestyle or holding your published book in your hands—your brain starts to form neural connections that can make it feel more attainable.
Spend a few minutes each day visualizing the emotions, the environment, and the sense of pride you’ll feel when you achieve your goal. The more vivid and specific you make this image, the more tangible your goal becomes, and the more inspired you’ll feel to take action. If you’re inspired make a vision board or come up with a picture that is motivating for you.
4. Establish a Routine (and Stick to It)
One of the most effective ways to keep the momentum going is to establish a daily or weekly routine around your goal. A routine takes the decision-making out of the process and helps you build consistency. Even when inspiration wanes, a set schedule can keep you moving forward.
For example, if your goal is to write a book, set aside a specific time each day (even if it’s just 30 minutes) to write. If you’re aiming to get fit, schedule workout sessions into your calendar as non-negotiable appointments. Routines help you make progress even on days when motivation is low, and over time, they can turn into habits.
I’m all about calendar blocking and placing your goals and time you’re working on your goals in your calendar. Block the time for you and your goals.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
Success isn’t just about achieving the end goal. It’s also about celebrating the smaller victories along the way. Did you eat healthy today? Did you write 1,000 words in a day? Celebrate! Acknowledge these moments because they add up. By celebrating, you’re reinforcing positive behavior and making the journey more enjoyable. Plus, when you can see progress in real-time, it reignites your enthusiasm to keep going.
There is Power in Celebrating Wins - They matter!
6. Find Accountability Partners
Sometimes, the best way to stay inspired is by sharing your journey with someone else. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or coach, having someone to hold you accountable can push you to take action even when you don’t feel like it. I love holding clients gently accountable and seeing them soar towards their goals.
There are apps to help as well. My clients use FocusMate and Flown.
Accountability partners not only offer encouragement, but they can also provide valuable feedback, advice, and different perspectives. Plus, the social connection adds a layer of fun and support, making the process less isolating.
7. Focus on the Process, Not Just the Outcome
It’s easy to become fixated on the end result of your goal. The real magic happens during the journey to the end. Life is all about the journey. Focusing on the process allows you to stay engaged and present in the work you’re doing, rather than just waiting for the goal to be accomplished.
Take a moment to appreciate the small daily steps you are taking. If you’re learning a new skill, for example, appreciate the progress you’re making with each practice session, rather than just fixating on the mastery of the skill. Embrace the growth that happens in the moment, and let that inspire you to keep going.
8. Embrace Setbacks as Opportunities
No journey is without its challenges. Setbacks are inevitable, and it’s important to not let them derail your progress. Instead of viewing mistakes or obstacles as failures, reframe them as opportunities. Ask yourself: What can I learn from this? What can I do differently next time? Is there something good that resulted in this?
By shifting your perspective on setbacks, you can maintain your motivation even when things don’t go according to plan. Remember, persistence isn’t about never failing—it’s about continuing to try after failure.
See Bouncing Back for how to reflect and move forward with failure and setbacks.
9. Surround Yourself with Inspiration
Sometimes, a little external inspiration is all you need to keep going. Follow people on social media who share your values and goals. Read books that inspire you, listen to podcasts that get you pumped, or attend events that fuel your passion. Place photos and motivational quotes where you can see them. Immersing yourself in positive and motivating content can serve as a reminder that you’re not alone on this journey, and it can reignite your drive to take action.
10. Be Kind to Yourself
Lastly, be compassionate with yourself along the way. Achieving big goals takes time, effort, and perseverance, but it also requires patience. If you slip up or have a bad day, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, acknowledge it, take a moment to feel all of the emotions, learn from it, and keep moving forward. Those that succeed get back up after a setback vs. remain down and wallowing.
Inspiration ebbs and flows, but self-compassion ensures that even on the days when you feel uninspired, you still believe in yourself and your ability to reach your goals. Getting inspired to take action on your goals is a combination of mindset, strategy, and persistence. By clarifying your "why," breaking down your goals, creating a routine, celebrating small wins, and surrounding yourself with inspiration, you’ll be better equipped to see your big goals to the end.
What’s one small action you WILL take today to move closer to your goal? Start there, and let the inspiration flow. Then plan for tomorrow’s next step. You CAN do it!
