I’ve become more comfortable with the unknown with through my training with the Chopra Center certification as a Perfect Health: Ayurveda Lifestyle instructor. In chapter 6 of The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra is a quote on unknown.
“In detachment lies the wisdom of the uncertainty…in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning. And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.” ~Deepak Chopra
How does this that land with you?
I love the stepping into the field of all possibilities and dancing with the universe.
What does it mean be in detachment? It means giving up attachment to results. Easy to say much harder to do and put into action.
What if you could give up the attachment to the results of your dreams, intentions and just let them be and flow?
In times of uncertainty, I find that at first, I seek to control and reign it in. I even teach my clients to ask what are the facts, what is known, what do I have control over – to help tame the unknown. That’s the ego taking over and doing what it likes –seeking control. Even if a false control.
What if it’s perfectly okay to not know?
I wonder if that would be a better question to ask first vs. diving into controlling. I’m trying this out on clients and myself.
What if we stopped and just allowed the uncertainty to just be? Allowing it to sit inside of our beings, brains and hearts.
Try it - Take 5 minutes or more and think about what it is that you’re uncertain and have unknown. Now just sit and just let it be.
What comes up for you?
I find my key uncertainty topic is the lingering pandemic - Will I get sick, fear of getting sick and potentially dying is a weary burden to carry. I’m ready to put down the fear and worry.
By stopping to just let uncertainty be begs the question, if I stop worrying about it, then what? Is that being irresponsible given my auto immune diseases and high-risk category?
I feel a forging of a new reality and understanding with possibilities versus the limitations of quarantine by letting it just be and not worrying.
What if by just being, I find more peace, love and connection?
What if by just being, I learn more about my fears and get beneath them?
Just righting this feels lighter and brighter.
What if I don’t have to know? What if uncertainty is perfectly OK?
I’m reminded of Brene' Brown’s work to lean into the discomfort.
Sitting with the unknown is uncomfortable but, isn’t killing me. It feels like a fidgety discomfort and I want to do something like make plans and take control. I force myself to just be and allow the unknown to just rattle around my being for a bit longer.
Allowing it to be – allows me to unwind from it and all that it means. I’m curiously looking at uncertainty with a wait and let’s see what happens. I am open to detachment and will allow life and others to be free of my expectations.
What if the unknown is wisdom and freedom?
What if? ...
