The 5 Things Gratitude Exercise
This can be done is at anytime, anywhere. It’s fun and family friendly. It could become a regular habit.
Instructions:
1. Trace your hand or print out a hand image
a. just like a Thanksgiving Turkey.
2. Now think of just 5 things to be genuinely thankful or grateful for and write them on the hand
3. Having trouble thinking of 5? Look around you and think smaller and smaller until you can come up with 5 things.
4. For family reflection time – share what each of you have written.
5. Decorate and hang up for fun.
5 Tips to Express Gratitude & Build Resiliency
1. Be present, put away electronic devices and tune into people
2. Say thank you and look at the person’s face
3. Tell someone their strengths (without judgment or BUT…)
4. Acknowledge their effort and/or sacrifice
5. Volunteer and/or donate what you have (time, finances, resources)
6. Bonus tip – the more specific you can be the higher the impact for you and the receiver :)
