As I exercised, I contemplated. What happens to people and goals? Where was the resolve to get healthy in 2018?
It struck me that maybe their goal wasn’t resilient enough?
There are ways to build resiliency. I wrote about some of my research and tools I've learned and use here.
Resilient goal?
My definition: A goal that is set, planned for, and worked towards, if missed, it is re-evaluated and set again with new learning. It’s a goal that withstands life, obstacles, challenges, and failures. Resilient.
My Resilient Goal: 2017 - Loosing 30+ lbs. of baby weight.
The baby weight goal turned 21 last year. My life-long struggled with weight was always there dragging me down. I’ve lost and gained 10-20ish but never reached my goal weight.
2017, this was THE year to loose that final 35 lbs. and get back to pre-baby weight of 150lbs. before my baby got married and that darn fat turned 22!
With that mindset, I put all of my energy towards making that goal. I was all in. It forced me to work hard, learning new eating habits. I dealt with deep food issues and habits. I fell back into my old habits. Stopped loosing and plateaued again. AUGH. I got back on my diet plan and worked harder and lost more weight. I stopped after the wedding – just 15 lbs. shy of my ultimate goal 150 lbs.
That was a pivotal point. Do I make the original goal or give up? Resilient or not?
I prayed and realized, I want and need to meet this goal. I have to for my own heath & my own integrity as a coach. It became a resilient goal when I decided to meet this goal and get back ON the diet - again. I knew what worked and I had more learning and growth to do emotionally. Despite having a full workload and travel, I stuck to a solid diet plan and coaching. I finally met the goal right before Thanksgiving. I celebrated, it only me 22.5 years to loose the baby weight but I did it. Finally. I kept the goal and I met it. Never had I met the goal before.
Guess what, it’s a resilient goal. I indulged a bit over the holidays. I’ve gained some weight back. Another pivotal point. I met the goal check or will I be healthy for life?
Resilient Goal and Life: I’m again rededicated to my healthy eating plan, daily food journal, coaching, and exercise. The weight is coming off - slowly...
I can hear some of you, “OK, Teresa, yay, for you. I’m not you.” I get it. What if you could?
Resilient goals. You CAN set and KEEP them. Here’s how:
When setting a goal here are some questions to ask yourself.
- How important it is meeting this goal?
- I don’t want to have health issues, as I get older as a result of poor diet or being obese.
- I don’t want to have health issues, as I get older as a result of poor diet or being obese.
- How bad do you really want it?
- Bad enough to work hard, dig deep, and deal with emotional issues. Vs. running away.

- Where can you get support?
- Support is critical to success. I signed up for a program with daily support and coaching. My family was also supportive and encouraging.

- Who and what will hold you accountable?
- Daily journaling, regular weigh-ins, my coach, my family.
