There is no right or wrong way to find balance. It is as unique as you are and the current situation you’re in. Life balance looks very different at 20 yrs. old than in your 40’s for example. It may also look different if you’re single, or with no kids vs. married and with children. Caring for a special needs person changes balance. Job and career changes often impact life balance. The key is for you to determine what balance means to you right now and how to find that in your life.
Achieving balance is an ongoing journey rather than a destination. I encourage folks to check-in with your life balance at least quarterly if not monthly. See how life is working and not working in balance.
For example, I checked in late last year and found that work was tilting to the overload point. Grateful for having a full work load and I realized that I needed to be sure I’m taking good care of me and my personal relationships. By setting an intention for balance this year and working on this I can say that as of today, life is mostly in balance. My work and personal life are working together vs. working apart. I find life is more balance when I check in and keep balance as a focus priority.
There are several strategies we can employ to cultivate greater harmony in our lives. Check out the ideas below and see what resonates for you.
Strategies for Achieving Life Balance
Set Priorities: Identify your core values and priorities. What’s most important to me right now?
- Then align your life and work with what’s most important.
- One key is to keep the Focus on what truly matters to you, and let go of activities that drain your energy without adding value.
Establish Boundaries: Learn to say no to what doesn’t align with your priorities or contribute to your well-being.
- Say yes to what does align and give you joy.
- Set boundaries around your time, energy, and relationships to protect your resources.
Practice Self-Care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of balance.
- Prioritize activities that replenish your energy, such as exercise, meditation, hobbies, and spending time in nature.
Manage Your Valuable Time: Utilize time-management. Guard your time and remember it’s YOUR time.
- Prioritize tasks, categorize To Do lists, have a To Done List
- Try batching similar activities, minimize distractions, utilize a planner or calendar
Don’t do it alone: Seek support.
- Ask for help & seek support from loved ones
- Delegate tasks
- Get creative and lighten your load and create space for balance
