Here we are at the end of week 4 of January – let’s check in on your Resolutions, Goals, Intentions whatever you may have set.
How are you doing with this month’s focus of Resilient Goals?
My Bounce Back Story
I’m in an “interesting” pivotal place that we so often find ourselves. That tired, this is hard, I don’t wanna anymore, why bother, who cares, … Do I keep my goals/intentions/Resolutions or say F-it?
My intentions/goals for 2019 had been going well. I was meeting my new weekly business goals, feeling good, and exercising. BOOM it all came crashing down, rug ripped out again …
Reflecting over this Boom. It wasn’t one thing - it was a series of little things that added up:
- Fighting depression as the cold, dark and rainy Texas winter drags me down
- Cedar fever clogging my sinuses and brain.
- Work stressors
- Bigger whammy - my arthritis pain and funky symptoms are back.
- The last straw a migraine – something new for me.
The migraine TKO’d me for a couple of days. At that point I did say F-it and just quit as I curled up into a ball of misery.
I emerged in a bruised emotional state of what the heck? What am I doing and why? Reading my own daily social media posts helped nourish my bruised self. Even as I said to no one in particular, “Bounce back goals – bah, bounce this world.”
I realized I didn’t have a plan in place to mitigate THIS type of setback. Uh-oh - Obstacles to success & how to mitigate - the O in the infographic for the month. Ouch!
I knew I had to find my inner light of resiliency and bouncing back. How?
The Resiliency, Change and Loss expert needs to walk my talk when I’d rather not?
Remembering the skills, knowledge and research I’ve done over the years. Knowing that I will bounce back as life goes on.
Taking small steps – one at a time.
I hope the steps below may be of use if you find yourself at an “interesting” pivotal point.
Teresa’s Small Steps towards Resilient Goals - When you feel like giving up.
- I started by taking some time to just be with the reality of my world.
- Acknowledge my feelings, and emotions. NOT blocking or suppressing them.
- Sit with this not rainbows and unicorns world of pain, feeling low and crummy, all of the life and work stressors.
- Review & Reflect my original goal/intentions.
- They are still what I desire for 2019. Check
- I am ignited by them, they are exciting and I feel positive energy by them.
- I can still keep working towards them. One step at a time.
- Review & reflect what I have accomplished since the start of 2019.
- Make a list of actions I have taken & things I have accomplished.
- I had forgotten amidst the pain and suck of life what I did accomplish towards my goals/intentions in Jan. 2019.
- (The list below is not to toot my horn but provide an example of what I had completely forgotten about that I HAD done)
- Working out 3x week for 3 weeks in a row
- Working on new & updated website
- On boarding new clients
- Work with my coach & accountability partners
- Having someone reflect my words, thoughts, and actions back to me
- Someone to hold space for me, acknowledge the suck and celebrate the wins.
- Uncover my own internal fears and a path forward.
- Someone to hold me accountable to my own goals and intentions.
- Lastly, making a plan to keep on moving forward & bounce back best I can
- For me that’s taking time to process this pivotal point
- What does mitigation look like?
- Write about this in my journal and sharing my experiences
- Set goals for the next week that I can and will achieve with mitigation as well.
My example for the #1 goal/intention for 2019.
Health is #1 – rest, eat healthy and exercise to be in the best health I can be in 2019 & beyond.
- Do blood work & see Rheumatologist
- Continue with alternative care - chiropractic, acupuncture & essential oils.
- Keep exercising and going to the Y.
- Continue eating healthy.
Resilient Goals – I embrace them and keep on learning about them. That’s what I do over and over and over again. Fall down, get up, bounce back- repeat. I’ve discovered my face down moments are shorter and bouncing back is quicker.
That’s the key – keep on bouncing back!!
I’m see my healthy self as Tigger from Winnie the Poo – bouncing along on my tail.
